JE SUIS UNE SAUVAGE: Part IV of "What is an Artist?"

On se rappelle les réponses de DeeDee et Hanksy : I am generally uncomfortable with people calling me an artist et I constantly dodge the label when talking about myself in interviews. In my opinion, it's a heavy term. One that I'm still struggling to figure out.

Seance at Station 16 Gallery

For most, the upcoming weekend will be filled with roses and candy hearts, but at Station 16, we are taking a more macabre approach to the weekend. Launching on Friday the 13th is the XRAY Spirit Board, a ouija-inspired artistic creation. To celebrate the product launch, Station 16 is hosting a seance at the gallery, where guests will be able to enjoy a drink, meet the artist, and summon the spirits.

The Street Museum of Art: Curating an Urban Landscape

The Street Museum of Art presents a unique and innovative approach to experiencing art by extending beyond the physicality of a museum or gallery. By combining the strategic curation and organization of a museum with the guerilla techniques of a street artist, SMoA is the first public art program of its kind.

The Bomarr Blog: Soundtracks to Street Art

While street artists tend to keep their personal lives private, the Background Noise series on the Bomarr Blog adds another dimension to the identity of street artists: their favorite music. The series features weekly interviews with street artists along with a curated playlist by the respective artist. For street art fans like us, this is one of the coolest blog ideas we have come across. Over the past 10 months, the blog has featured a number of Station 16 artists, including Stikki PeachesEnzo & Niogilf!, with the latest edition highlighting Whatisadam.

Zlion devant sa contribution pour le Festival MURALE 2014 / Zlion in front of his 2014 MURAL Festival contribution

Zilon, the self-taught artist often labeled as the godfather of street art in Quebec, joins the roster of Station 16 Gallery. Deeply influenced by comic books, Zilon has been drawing ever since he was a child, which led him to his own style early in his career. "My art, I live, I breathe, it's not something I do part-time or as a tourist," exclaims Zilon, claiming that he makes art for himself, although it is constantly under public scrutiny. Having lived a difficult childhood, art has proven to be a creative outlet that allows him to survive the torments of daily life. Full-fledged artist, Zilon feels accomplished when he speaks, but more so when he can put his ideas on paper.
